Microsoft 365 at KIT: New services and regulations

Employees as well as most guests and partners automatically receive an M365 account and can now use extensive Microsoft cloud services. Service agreement, AI training and security mechanisms have been implemented since the end of 2025.

Comprehensive Microsoft cloud services (M365) are now available at KIT. The basis for this is KIT's service agreement on the introduction and operation of Microsoft 365, which came into force in December 2025. This means that the previous requirement for consent to use M365 applications for employees, guests and partners no longer applies.

All employees and most guests and partners with a valid KIT account will automatically receive an M365 account and can therefore use the activated services and applications. These include Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, OneNote, Planner, Forms, To Do, Lists, Whiteboard, Copilot, Visio, Project, the Power Platform, Clipchamp, Loop and the "M365 Entra ID" administration system. With the large-scale introduction of M365, personal OneDrive storage will also be activated for employees and GuP.

To secure Microsoft cloud services, two-factor authentication has already been made mandatory for login in 2025

As with access to AI-based tools at KIT (e.g. AI toolbox), the successful completion of the AI competence module Understanding and Using Generative AI is required to use Microsoft Copilot.
