2026-03-11 12:00KIT mailbox: Exchange connection problems – Investigation into the causes is ongoing - Further disruptions possible
| Description | UPDATE, 11 March 2026, 3 p.m.
Analysis work is taking place to analyse past connection problems with KIT's Exchange servers.
The SCC is looking for a sustainable solution so that the problem does not catch us off guard again.
Unfortunately, these analyses are urgent and necessary during operation, which means that further connection problems with the Exchange service are to be expected.
The SCC is monitoring any connection problems that arise and will endeavour to resolve them immediately.
Feedback from users has shown that not all mail clients appear to be affected equally.
Thank you for your understanding.

2026-04-07 10:52KIT email: Change in sending frequency – Please note!
CHANGE COMPLETED on 2 April 2026
DESCRIPTION
Restriction of mail sending frequency to protect us from outgoing spam waves
AFFECTED
Service: Mail delivery to external recipients - https://www.scc.kit.edu/en/services/9916.php
IMPACT
The KIT mailservers for outgoing mails accept per distinct sender max. 60 external recipients per 30 seconds, resp. 150 external recipients per 30 minutes.
When this limit is reached mails are temporarly rejected und thus the sending delayed
When sending emails via Exchange server this delay is transparent for the end user.
MEASURES
With delaying big mail bursts and ongoing log analysis the Mailhost-Team wants to detect possible spam waves out of the KIT and to implemet countermessures
NOTE
By log analysis Mailhost-Team already detected sender addresses with regular big mail volume to external recipients and exceptions where implemented. Not affected are mails via KIT listserver https://lists.kit.edu and Exchange distribution lists with KIT internal addresses.
